![]() ![]() MR: I probably would've done the same to be honest. What would you have done if you were in her shoes? TV: In the final episode of the season, Devi is faced with a choice to attend a school that would better her chances of getting into her dream university or finishing senior year at Sherman Oaks High with her closest friends. I'd want her to have that kind of chillness to just live in the moment, have fun, because homegirl deserves it. I was like, "Eh, whatever." Good grades are great, but living life and having fun is more great. But with that being said, as much as I want her science and math skills, I also want to give her my careless attitude about grades, because when I was going through high school, I did not really care about grades that much, in the sense that I never let it define me. It's not like we're giving each other athleticism, neither of us have that. ![]() That would've been dope - I would've loved being good at science and math. MR: Man, she seems to be pretty good at science and math. TV: What is one trait of Devi’s that you wish you had, and one trait of yours that you wish Devi could adopt? TV: There's a Bridgerton Lady Whistledown parody that's introduced this season in the form of "Lady Whistleboy." Are you a fan of Bridgerton ? What are your thoughts on Season 2? I think in my ideal world, that's what happens in life and society: we get to call it out, recognize it, we don't get defensive about it, and we move on and realize, "Okay, yeah. ![]() She recognizes it very quickly and deeply and truly does apologize for it, then they both get to move on and just be kids. I think it's awesome that we address her subconscious bias. Devi having all these assumptions about Des before she even hears him, speaks with him, meets him, is only making her miss out on someone who's pretty cool and could be someone that she really gets along with, let alone a relationship. A lot of us hold conscious bias, which is truly not only doing a disservice to those they have that bias against or assumptions about, but also a disservice to the people that they could potentially meet. MR: The introduction of Des was pretty awesome because we're calling out her subconscious bias, right? Devi feels it being called out because, dang, she needs it to be called out. Why do you think it's important for Devi to have a South Asian love interest? Before Des, Devi was uninterested in dating Indian guys, something that's directly called out in the show. TV: Season 3 introduces a new love interest named Des ( Anirudh Pisharody ) who becomes Devi’s first Indian boyfriend. I self-loved." Sometimes it's, "Oh, I am not self-loving anymore." I think it's honestly really important for all points in your life. it's not something that happens once and then you're done. But I think honestly, the self-love journey is just as important when you're older and you're out of high school because you should love yourself at all points in your life. There is so much pressure and just absolute crap that happens when you're young. MR: There is so much coming at you in high school. TV: What do you think is the impact of Devi embarking on this self-love journey during her junior year of high school? ![]()
